PD Hours: 80 Hours
Length: 4 Weeks

If you haven’t noticed, “common core curriculum” is the latest buzzword in education. Art provides a natural connection to every subject, and when cross-curricular connections are made, student learning will soar. This course will explore ways to connect art to other core subjects like math, reading, language, social studies, science and technology. You will discover ways you are already making connections in your curriculum and ways to take those connections further within your art room, school and community.

Research what is happening with the Common Core and the Arts in your specific area and nationwide, all while building a comprehensive interdisciplinary plan to use immediately in your art room. This class comes with planning matrixes that connect art to the core and are exclusive to class participants.

  • Learn how integrating the common core can save your art room and develop units/lessons for your own art room
  • Research the common core in your state and how it applies to your art program
  • Discover how the best schools in the nation are making cross curricular connections fluid for their students

    Notes from past participants:

I think this is great information about the common core and the potential common core for art. I thought all the information was thought provoking and the resources were very helpful. I feel more confident as to what the common core is and how we connect to it. Most of the connecting is already being done but linking it to the cc was very useful. Use of the artist statement was something that I will do this year. I wish/hope for technology to become available for me in the art room too!

This class was very intense and informative. It helped me develop as an art educator for the better. I now know about things that have not even been brought up in meetings yet. (4C’s) I think the assignments are very important to the classroom. Things that I will utilize in the classroom. Thanks for the class and I am sure I will be taking other online courses.

This was a fantastic course and was truly “ridiculously relevant”! AOE was able to provide me with outstanding and current research, resources and materials that are easily adaptable to my classroom. I loved this class and will be sure to take again in the future!
