Instructional-Strategies

Credits: 3 Credits
PD Hours: 120 Hours
Length: 5 Weeks

In addition to a big picture vision, the heart of every art curriculum includes quality lessons that involve a variety of media, techniques and tools. These details make your art room hum on a daily basis. Various media have different quirks and dispositions and if you aren’t well versed in how to manipulate materials for your students, the lesson can easily flop.

This class will allow you to learn best practices in every art media you teach, ensuring you have developed an art curriculum with not only breadth, but depth, all while becoming an expert in your content area. Each week of this class will cover a different topic or media of art instruction.

We won’t just cover the ‘how to” for each media, you will learn some important instructional strategies in order to more effectively deliver your message, refine your demonstrations and perfect your teaching language so students will understand the art concepts and become more independent creative thinkers.

  • Design best-practice ‘cheat sheets’ for each media you teach – never forget the best tips and tricks
  • Learn about the process of building art skills through the K-12 art ed experience
  • Explore 2D art concepts, including drawing, painting, print-making, and more
